Injury Concerns Cloud IPL 2025 for Fast Bowler Mayank Yadav

Lucknow, India — Paced bowler Mayank Yadav will miss the remainder of the IPL 2025 season due to an injury, raising concerns about the effectiveness of his rehabilitation. Yadav, who had hoped to make an impact this season with the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), has faced setbacks since suffering an injury during his debut series against Bangladesh in October 2024.
After recovering at the Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru, Yadav played a match against the Mumbai Indians but showed a clear lack of pace and intensity. In a subsequent outing against the Punjab Kings in Dharamsala, he allowed 60 runs without taking a wicket and succumbed to three consecutive sixes from Josh Inglis.
A source close to the team’s medical staff expressed concern about how Yadav was cleared to resume playing with limited practice and no full-intensity bowling sessions. “It took the CoE just 10-12 sessions to give him a green signal, with part of those sessions at reduced intensity,” the source told the Times of India. “This raises questions about his readiness given his long absence due to injury.”
Recent changes in CoE leadership may have contributed to the decision-making during Yadav’s recovery. Nitin Patel stepped down as Head of Sports Science, and Dhananjay Kaushik took over rehabilitation duties. There are still concerns about whether Yadav’s bowling action was addressed during these sessions. A source commented, “His body continues to fall towards the side after landing, which adds stress to his back.”
In his limited IPL career, Yadav has participated in just six matches across two seasons, failing to complete his full four-over quota in most. This latest injury adds to ongoing discussions about the challenges faced by young bowlers in sustaining performance at the professional level.
The LSG’s season has been overshadowed by Yadav’s struggles, and team management must now assess the implications for their bowling lineup moving forward.
