Inter Miami Joins Race for Rising Star Gilberto Mora

MIAMI, Florida — Inter Miami is reportedly the latest club to pursue Mexico national team talent Gilberto Mora. The 16-year-old midfielder has become a hot topic following an impressive five goal involvements in four matches during the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
Just days after celebrating his 17th birthday, Mora is already among the tournament’s standout players. As the third youngest participant, he has drawn attention from multiple top-tier European clubs, including some well-known names that have not yet been disclosed.
Inter Miami, known for its high-profile signings, is aiming for a new direction. Following the retirements of key players, the Herons intend to shift from acquiring aging stars to attracting young, talented athletes like Mora.
However, any potential deal may be costly. Mora’s agent, Rafaela Pimenta, who also represents stars like Erling Haaland, stressed the young player’s value. “With €15 million ($17.4 million), I can’t even buy one of Gilberto Mora’s legs,” she stated, indicating that Tijuana, Mora’s current club, expects to sell him for an amount nearly double that figure.
Although Mora must wait until he turns 18 to officially transfer due to FIFA regulations, teams can negotiate a deal prior to that milestone. Recent reports suggest that offers from European clubs have been made but rejected by Tijuana due to their insufficient value.
As the tournament progresses, Mora’s performance could bolster his reputation further. Mexico head coach Javier Aguirre believes Mora should take on new challenges abroad, urging him to join a European team competing in prestigious leagues like the Champions League or Europa League.
If Mora continues to excel, he is poised to join Mexico’s roster for the upcoming summer tournament, which could significantly increase his market value.
