Iowa State Cyclones Advance To Sweet 16 With Commanding Victory Over Washington State

Iowa State‘s Cyclones triumphed in a tense battle against Washington State at the CHI Health Center, securing a spot in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament. The confetti fell as Iowa State overcame a rough offensive start with strong defense to claim a 67-56 victory over Washington State.

Heading to Boston for the East Region semifinals, Iowa State will face either Illinois or Duquesne at TD Garden on Thursday. A win in the next round would see the Cyclones reach their first Elite 8 since 2000.

Tamin Lipsey led the charge for Iowa State, despite playing through a shoulder injury, contributing 15 points, five rebounds, and four assists. Curtis Jones added 14 points, while Keshon Gilbert and Milan Momcilovic each chipped in with 10 points.

Washington State shot 43 percent from the field and 23 percent from beyond the arc, struggling to match Iowa State’s defensive intensity. The Cougars’ 13 turnovers proved costly, leading to 21 Cyclone points.

After a slow offensive start that saw Iowa State miss their first 10 shots, the Cyclones’ resolute defense kept them in the game, entering halftime tied at 27. The second half showcased Iowa State’s dominance as they quickly took control and never looked back.

With five consecutive double-digit victories, including a convincing win over Houston in the Big 12 Tournament final, Iowa State enters the regional semifinals in top form. The possibility of facing off against UConn, the number one seed, looms large as the Cyclones continue their impressive tournament run.
