Iowa Hawkeyes Aim for Fifth Straight Win Against Chicago State
IOWA CITY, Iowa — The Iowa Hawkeyes are set to host the Chicago State Cougars on November 20, aiming for their fifth consecutive win to start the 2025-26 season. After defeating Southeast Missouri State 99-70 on November 18, the Hawkeyes enter the matchup with a record of 4-0.
The Hawkeyes had a strong performance against SEMO, showcasing their offensive prowess by shooting 61% from the field. Iowa’s defense also played a key role, forcing 17 turnovers that converted into 26 points for the Hawkeyes. Coach Ben McCollum’s players have averaged better than 50% shooting during the season, currently leading the nation with a 57.9% field goal percentage.
Junior forward Alvaro Folgueiras, who scored 16 points in the last game, alongside senior guard Bennett Stirtz, averaging 19.8 points, leads the team in scoring. Stirtz’s well-rounded contributions, which also include 6.3 assists and 2.3 steals per game, solidify his role as a leader on the court.
This matchup against Chicago State, which currently holds a record of 0-5, poses a unique challenge for Iowa. The Cougars are looking to secure their first win, and McCollum emphasized the importance of maintaining focus despite the Cougars’ struggles. “We need to make sure we treat every opponent seriously, regardless of their record,” he said.
