Jack Dreyer Baseball Debut World Series

LOS ANGELES, CA – Jack Dreyer, a former standout pitcher from Johnston High School in Iowa, made his World Series debut for the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday night. Dreyer took the mound during a tense moment in the eighth inning of a tied game against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Entering with the score tied at 5-5, Dreyer replaced Blake Treinen and faced immediate pressure. He threw five pitches, allowing one hit while recording one out as Addison Barger reached on a throwing error by Mookie Betts. Dreyer successfully struck out Ernie Clement before being relieved by Roki Sasaki, who finished the inning without allowing further scoring.

This crucial appearance followed an earlier postseason showing on October 8 against the Philadelphia Phillies, where Dreyer pitched an inning, allowing just one walk and no hits. So far in the postseason, he has pitched two innings over three games, with one hit allowed and two walks.

The 26-year-old had a strong regular season, appearing in 67 games with a record of 3-2, four saves, and a 2.95 earned run average after striking out 74 batters.

Dreyer’s career trajectory has been remarkable. Signed as an undrafted free agent from the University of Iowa in 2021, he quickly advanced through the Dodgers’ minor league system. He was added to the team’s 40-man roster in late 2024 and made his MLB debut against the Chicago Cubs during the Tokyo Series on March 19, 2025.

In a high-pressure situation during the Wild Card Series against the Cincinnati Reds, Dreyer limited damage with two crucial outs while the bases were loaded.

At Johnston High School, Dreyer’s talent was undeniable. He pitched a complete game in the Class 4A state championship, striking out 13 batters and finishing his senior year undefeated at 10-0 with a stellar 0.34 earned run average. His impressive high school record includes 23 wins and 195 strikeouts over 149 innings.

Dreyer’s journey from Iowa to the World Series reflects his hard work and talent. As fans eagerly anticipate his continued contributions, he represents the dedication found in youth sports.
