Jacob Fatu Remembers Losing Yokozuna’s Championship Belt in Funny Story

Knoxville, TN — Jacob Fatu, the reigning WWE United States Champion, shared a humorous childhood memory of losing his uncle Yokozuna‘s championship belt backstage during a recent interview with the Toronto Sun.
Fatu recounted the incident, revealing that he was just a kid running around when he misplaced the legendary wrestler’s title belt. He said, “Yokozuna. I lost his belt backstage, yeah, and Earl Hebner found it. It was by the catering.”
Reflecting on the memory, Fatu noted, “I was young and just running around. It’s wild that you bring it up, because I was just thinking about him the other day — especially when he won the Royal Rumble in Sacramento, California. So, you know, it’s really special to me.”
He remembered how his father reacted, saying, “My dad was flicking me in the ear, saying, ‘Man, where’s the belt at?’ But my uncle wasn’t even mad. He was just laughing.” Fatu will never forget when Hebner brought the belt back and Yokozuna reassured him, asking, “Where’d you find it?” The reply was comedic, “It was by the cookies and sodas over there in catering.”
“That’s one of my earliest wrestling memories, and honestly, one of my favorites,” Fatu added. He attributes that moment as part of his introduction to the wrestling world.
Jacob Fatu is set to compete in a Men’s Money In The Bank Qualifying Match on WWE SmackDown tonight, where he will face Carmelo Hayes and Andrade. The winner will secure a spot in the upcoming Money In The Bank ladder match on June 7 in Inglewood, CA.
