Jaden Umeh Signs with Benfica: Cork City Sends Young Star Off
Cork City FC has officially announced that their talented young player, Jaden Umeh, is heading to Benfica.
The 16-year-old has played 15 matches for Cork City this season, scoring two goals in that time. After considering an offer for a professional contract from his current club, Umeh has opted for the opportunity to join the Portuguese club instead.
This move means Cork City will receive training compensation from Benfica, in line with FIFA’s compensation regulations. They will also see additional benefits down the line, depending on how well Umeh progresses in his career.
Liam Kearney, the Head of Academy at Cork City, expressed his pride in Umeh’s development. He remarked on how well Umeh has been doing since he joined the academy from Ringmahon Rangers. Kearney noted that Umeh has attracted interest from several prestigious clubs.
While Kearney wished Umeh could stay a bit longer, he understands this is a fantastic chance for the young player. He praised the stature of Benfica and conveyed his excitement over the opportunities that lie ahead for Umeh.
In closing, Kearney thanked Umeh for his contributions to the club and wholeheartedly wished him success in the future.
