Jaguars Adjust Travis Hunter’s Role Ahead of Week 7 Matchup
London, England – Jacksonville Jaguars coach Liam Coen is planning to increase rookie wide receiver and cornerback Travis Hunter‘s role on offense ahead of the team’s Week 7 game against the Los Angeles Rams. Hunter, the second overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, has had a mixed start to his professional career.
Through six games, Hunter has played 63 percent of the Jaguars’ offensive snaps while participating in 39 percent of the defensive snaps. His performance includes 20 receptions for 197 yards, but he has yet to find the end zone.
Coen stated, “Scheming him open is part of it, our job as an offensive staff is to ensure we’re putting him in the progression to be the first option more often.” The Jaguars are adjusting their approach after Hunter’s disappointing four-catch, 15-yard game in a recent loss to the Seattle Seahawks.
Quarterback Trevor Lawrence noted Hunter’s dedication, saying, “He wanted to get better. I think that’s great for a quarterback.” Lawrence praised Hunter’s commitment as they worked on improving their connection, especially after some early miscommunications during games.
Despite his challenges, Hunter remains a crucial asset. Coach Coen emphasized the need for teamwork, highlighting that players must be at the right spot at the right time for successful plays.
As the Jaguars prepare for their international matchup at Wembley Stadium, the team hopes to leverage Hunter’s skills effectively. Recent comments suggest that if Hunter gains more offensive opportunities, his defensive workload may decrease to enhance his overall impact.
