Jalen Green Agrees to Historic 3-Year, $106M Extension with Houston Rockets
Houston Rockets guard Jalen Green has made history by agreeing to a three-year, $106 million rookie contract extension with the team. This deal, negotiated by his agents Aaron Mintz, Andrew Morrison, and Shakira Wardally of CAA, includes a player option in the third year, allowing Green to potentially increase his earnings in the future.
Green, 22, is the first NBA player to successfully negotiate a 2-plus-1 rookie extension on a nine-figure deal. He has been a trendsetter since becoming the first signing of the NBA’s G League Ignite in 2020 and then being drafted by the Rockets as the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NBA draft.
In his third NBA season, Green averaged 19.6 points on 42.3% shooting, along with 5.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game. He showcased his scoring prowess with notable performances, including a 42-point game against the Washington Wizards and a 41-point game against the Utah Jazz.
Despite trade rumors surrounding him last season, Green remained with the Rockets. The extension secures his place with the team as they aim to improve their standing in the Western Conference. This deal also provides Green with financial flexibility and the potential to earn over $240 million in the next five years, considering his eligibility for another extension in October 2026.
