JAMB Introduces Audiobooks for Visually Impaired Candidates in Nigeria

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has launched an innovative initiative aimed at assisting visually impaired students as they prepare for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry (DE) admissions. This new audiobook resource was announced in a detailed report titled ‘Registrar’s Report on 2023 Admission and 2024 UTME,’ which was presented at a recent policy meeting hosted at the Hairat Ade Balogun Auditorium in Abuja. The meeting served as a platform for JAMB to unveil the new initiative, which is anticipated to greatly enhance the examination experience of blind applicants.

The audiobooks represent a significant advancement in educational technology, tailored to meet the specific needs of visually impaired individuals. By providing a digital version of traditional reading materials, JAMB has ensured that these candidates can easily access study materials through popular audio file formats, including WMV, MP3, WMA, and AAC.

According to official sources, the suggestion for this innovative audiobook solution arose during the inaugural national conference focused on equal access to higher education in Nigeria, which took place on September 25 and 26, 2023. JAMB officials revealed that approximately 577 visually impaired candidates are expected to take advantage of this new resource at designated examination centers across the country.
