Jannik Sinner Advances in Vienna: Italy’s Star Keeps Winning Streak
Vienna, Austria – Jannik Sinner continued his impressive run at the Erste Bank Open on Thursday, defeating fellow Italian Andrea Cobolli in the Round of 16. Sinner secured his victory with a score of 6-2, 7-6(4), marking his 17th consecutive win against fellow countrymen.
Top-seeded Sinner reached the quarter-finals after a dominant first set against Cobolli. Although the match got more challenging in the second set, Sinner remained focused to earn the win in one hour and 48 minutes.
“He has been playing an incredible season and has been improving week after week, so I was looking forward to this one,” Sinner said. “I tried to stay in the moment and play with a great mentality and I am very happy with today’s match.”
Sinner demonstrated strong consistency, not facing any break points in the first set. Despite struggling to convert break point opportunities in the second set, he managed to secure key points during the tie-break.
In his previous match at this ATP 500 event on Wednesday, Sinner achieved his quickest win of the season, defeating his opponent in just 58 minutes. The 24-year-old currently holds a 14-4 record in Vienna and is on a 18-match indoor winning streak.
