Japan Airlines Sports Equipment Baggage Allowance

Japan Airlines has announced a special campaign to support travelers engaging in various sports activities in Japan. The airline is offering an extra checked baggage allowance for sports equipment, including skis, golf clubs, diving gear, and bicycles, until March 31, 2025.

This initiative is designed to cater to skiers, golfers, divers, and cyclists traveling to Japan. Eligible passengers can enjoy an additional checked baggage allowance for their sports equipment, provided they apply through the Japan Airlines contact center no later than one day before their flight’s departure date.

For bicycles, specific handling precautions must be followed, such as deflating the tires, removing the pedals, and securing the handle frame in parallel. Electric bicycles are not allowed, and the total size of the bicycle must not exceed 250 cm (99 inches) in length, height, and width combined. Diving and underwater photography equipment also have specific handling requirements, including the removal of batteries from the main body of the equipment.

The campaign applies to passengers with international air tickets originating from outside of Japan and destined for Japan. Eligible fare types include international tickets, award tickets, and certain domestic flight sectors issued within international through itineraries. However, the campaign does not apply to flights operated by other carriers or through-check-in itineraries connecting to/from other airline-operated flights.

This special baggage allowance is part of Japan Airlines’ effort to enhance the travel experience for sports enthusiasts visiting Japan, ensuring that they can bring their necessary equipment without additional hassle.
