Jatin Paranjape Praises Prithvi Shaw, Discusses India’s Aggressive Test Strategy
Former Indian cricketer and selector Jatin Paranjape has lauded current Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma for his aggressive approach during the recent home Test series against Bangladesh. Speaking at an event in New Delhi, Paranjape described Sharma’s leadership style in the series, particularly highlighting the pivotal Kanpur Test as a significant moment in Indian Test cricket history.
Despite interruptions by rain during the Kanpur Test, India managed to secure a convincing 2-0 series victory over Bangladesh. Paranjape acknowledged this achievement, stating that the Indian team’s newfound aggressive DNA plays a crucial role. “Since Rohit has become the captain, the intent and DNA of the team have become attack-oriented,” Paranjape stated in an interview with ANI. He further elaborated that this aggressive style was evident across various formats and is expected to persist in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia.
Paranjape also praised up-and-coming Mumbai cricketer Prithvi Shaw, describing him as “the most talented batter in India” despite Shaw’s limited appearances for the national team recently. Shaw, who last played for India in July 2021, has fallen behind other rising stars such as Shubman Gill and Ruturaj Gaikwad due to injuries and form dips. “I feel Prithvi Shaw is the most talented player in India. His natural style is to attack, and that will continue,” Paranjape remarked.
Speaking on another prominent player, Paranjape commended spin all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin, who was awarded ‘Player of the Series’ against Bangladesh. He noted Ashwin’s significant contributions both with the bat and ball, emphasizing that Ashwin’s finest years may still lie ahead. “He is a legend. I think his best five years are ahead of him,” Paranjape stated.
Paranjape also touched upon the Mumbai cricket scene, mentioning other players like Sarfaraz Khan and Yashasvi Jaiswal, who have shown potential on the domestic circuit. He expressed confidence in Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, highlighting Sharma’s consistency and strategic acumen as crucial to India’s ongoing success.
