HOUSTON, Texas — Josh Okogie, a key player for the Houston Rockets, has expressed his unwavering support for Nigeria‘s national basketball team, the D’Tigers. According to Sports247, Okogie revealed that despite initially aligning with the U.S., he finds immense joy in representing Nigeria.

Three months ago, Okogie participated in a training camp in Nigeria, where the team played two friendly matches against Guinea. “It was my first time ever playing basketball in Nigeria. I loved playing in front of the fans. The whole environment made it the most heartfelt game I had ever played in my life,” Okogie said.

He also emphasized the pride he feels when donning Nigeria’s jersey. “To be able to rep your country and play in front of them is a big honour for me. The fact that I was born there made it really cool for me going back there to play for the country,” Okogie added.

Okogie is set to showcase his dedication to the D’Tigers again on Thursday, as they face Tunisia in the first phase of the African qualifiers for the next FIBA Men’s Basketball World Cup. The match will be crucial for Nigeria’s hopes of advancing in the tournament, and Okogie’s commitment to his team remains evident.
