TAURANGA, New Zealand — New Zealand has announced a 14-member squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against England, with the return of former captain Kane Williamson and all-rounder Nathan Smith. The series starts on October 26 at Bay Oval.

Williamson, 35, has been sidelined by a minor medical issue but is now fit to lead the team. He last played in the Champions Trophy final against India in Dubai. Meanwhile, Smith, 27, comes back after recovering from an abdominal injury that he sustained during the second Test against Zimbabwe in August.

The squad features a mix of experienced players and emerging talents. Alongside Williamson and Smith, players like Devon Conway, Daryl Mitchell, and Rachin Ravindra will also be key contributors. Notably, Zak Foulkes is expected to make his ODI debut.

Mitchell Santner will continue as captain, providing stability and leadership. The batting order includes Tom Latham, who returns after a shoulder injury, and Mark Chapman. New Zealand’s pace attack remains strong, with Matt Henry, Kyle Jamieson, and Jacob Duffy expected to make an impact, while Santner and Michael Bracewell add strength to the spin department.

However, the team faces challenges as several key players are unavailable due to injuries. Mohammad Abbas (ribs), Finn Allen (foot), Lockie Ferguson (hamstring), Adam Milne (ankle), Will O’Rourke (back), Glenn Phillips (groin), and Ben Sears (hamstring) will miss out.

In a statement, New Zealand coach Rob Walter expressed excitement about the return of Williamson and Smith. “Kane and Nathan have had to work hard to overcome their respective injuries and illness. We all know what Kane means to New Zealand,” he said. “This series against England is a significant step as we prepare for the ICC Cricket World Cup in South Africa in 2027.”

New Zealand’s squad for the ODI series also includes Michael Bracewell, Mark Chapman, Devon Conway, Jacob Duffy, Zak Foulkes, Matt Henry, Kyle Jamieson, Tom Latham, Daryl Mitchell, Rachin Ravindra, and Will Young.
