Kansas City Neighborhood Shooting Scene

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Neighbors in Kansas City’s Northland are in shock after a teenager was fatally shot on Wednesday afternoon. Witnesses believe two teenage boys are responsible for the shooting, which occurred near Northeast 75th Court, close to Shoal Creek Parkway.

Jeremy Greenfield, a resident in the area, was among the first to respond when he heard what he thought were fireworks shortly after 2 p.m. on Wednesday. “I looked out the window and saw two teens running up the street,” Greenfield recalled. One of the young men returned to his neighbor’s house, where he found the victim lying on the ground, clearly injured.

Greenfield described how the teen in the white hoodie asked for help. He immediately called 911, and his daughter along with two other women from the neighborhood performed CPR on the victim until emergency responders arrived. “I think he was shot in the back trying to get out of his truck,” Greenfield said.

At approximately midnight, Kansas City police executed a search warrant at a house on Northeast 75th Street as part of their investigation. Officers ordered the occupants to come out with their hands empty. The homeowner expressed surprise at the police activity and stated that six children were inside the home, all under 12 years old, who had to wait outside for about two hours during the search.

Witnesses reported seeing the victim, who has not yet been identified, driving a pickup truck believed to have been towed from the scene afterwards. Neighbors also mentioned that the suspects fled in an SUV, and video footage was provided to detectives by a resident showing one teen wearing a white hoodie and another dressed in dark clothing, both with their faces covered.

The victim was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. “It was a shock. It’s a quiet neighborhood, and we’ve never had anything like this before—other than kids with fireworks,” said Greenfield, reflecting on the tragic event. As of Thursday afternoon, police had not made any arrests or identified the victim.
