OEIRAS, Portugal — American tennis player Katie Volynets reached the final of the Oeiras Ladies Open on Saturday evening after defeating Swiss player Simona Waltert with a score of 6-1, 6-4. The second-seeded Volynets, currently ranked No. 80 in the WTA rankings, will face Hungary’s Dalma Galfi in the title match.

Volynets’ path to the final was marked by decisive victories throughout the tournament. In previous rounds, she overcame Italian Giorgia Pedone (6-2, 6-1), Slovenian Tamara Zidansek (6-4, 6-3), and Andorran Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva (6-2, 6-1). Her consistent performance has solidified her position as a strong competitor in the tournament.

Simona Waltert, ranked No. 161, advanced to the semifinals after a challenging tournament that included victories over Portuguese wildcard Matilde Jorge (6-4, 4-6, 6-4), No. 3 seed Elisabetta Cocciaretto from Italy (6-3, 3-6, 6-3), and Serbian Nina Stojanovic (6-4, 7-6 (5)). Despite a fierce effort against Volynets, Waltert’s run ended in the semifinals.

Looking ahead, Volynets aims to capture her first title of the season against Galfi, who has also shown impressive skill leading up to the final match. With both players displaying strong performances in Oeiras, the final promises to be competitive.
