Kevin Durant Wins 2024-25 Magic Johnson Award Again

Phoenix, Arizona – Kevin Durant of the Phoenix Suns has won the 2024-25 Magic Johnson Award, the Professional Basketball Writers Association announced on May 14, 2025. The award recognizes the NBA player who excels on the court and demonstrates excellence in dealing with the media and fans.
This season, Durant averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game. He earned his 15th All-Star selection and is now a two-time recipient of this prestigious award, first winning it in the 2010-11 season.
“We’re really pleased to honor KD again,” said PBWA president Howard Beck. “Kevin has long been one of the NBA’s most thoughtful and accessible stars. He always makes time for reporters, whether for on-the-record interviews or just informal chit-chat.”
Beck highlighted Durant’s willingness to engage on various topics, from detailed analyses of games to broader league issues. He also noted Durant’s advocacy for reopening locker rooms after the pandemic, emphasizing its importance for building trust between players and journalists.
Durant joins the ranks of Stephen Curry, Damian Lillard, and Shane Battier as a two-time winner. Donovan Mitchell of the Cleveland Cavaliers was the runner-up in this year’s voting. Other finalists included Bam Adebayo, Tyrese Haliburton, and Draymond Green.
The Magic Johnson Award has been presented annually since 2001. It honors Earvin “Magic” Johnson, who is renowned for his thoughtful interactions with the media during his Hall of Fame career.
