Kevin Magnussen, the Formula 1 driver, is set to leave the Haas team at the conclusion of the current season as his contract with the American outfit is not being renewed. The Danish driver, having been with Haas for seven seasons in total, has struggled to match the performances of his current teammate Nico Hülkenberg, prompting the decision for his departure.

Magnussen’s Formula 1 journey began back in 2014 with McLaren, where he impressed in his debut race by finishing second at the Australian Grand Prix. Subsequently, he remained with McLaren for the season, scoring points in multiple races. Despite a promising start, Magnussen was replaced in 2015 by Fernando Alonso and moved to a reserve driver role before joining Renault in 2016. After a single season with Renault, he made the switch to Haas.

During his first stint with Haas from 2017 to 2020, Magnussen frequently brought valuable points to the team. However, he was replaced in 2021 and seemingly faced the end of his Formula 1 career. In an unexpected turn of events at the start of the 2022 season, due to the geopolitical situation, he was brought back to replace Nikita Mazepin in the Haas team.

Following the announcement of his departure, Magnussen expressed gratitude to the team, stating, ‘It has been an incredible journey, filled with highs and lows, great moments, and fantastic memories. I am extremely thankful for the opportunity to race alongside such an amazing group of people. Racing has and always will be a part of who I am.’

Haas team principal Ayao Komatsu also praised Magnussen for his contributions, noting, ‘Kevin has been a pillar of our lineup for many years. Nobody has raced more for the team than him, and we have shared many good moments together. There are still many races to go this year, and we look forward to seeing what we can achieve with Kevin as part of our championship collaboration.’

As the Formula 1 season progresses, the focus now shifts to who will fill the vacant seat at Haas alongside Oliver Bearman for the 2025 season, following the recruitment of the young British driver. Meanwhile, Nico Hülkenberg is set to transition to Sauber for 2026 as part of his move to Audi.’
