Kevin Spacey Revives Frank Underwood in New Netflix Promo

LOS ANGELES, April 15, 2025 — Kevin Spacey has resurrected his infamous character Frank Underwood in a new promotional video for Tim Dillon‘s Netflix comedy special, “I’m Your Mother.” Released Tuesday, the video showcases Spacey, who has been embroiled in controversy following allegations of sexual misconduct, delivering his signature monologue style while engaging with Dillon.
In the video, Spacey’s Underwood character taunts Dillon, saying, “You podcasters think you’ve inherited the kingdom… you’re nothing but a bunch of clowns juggling boner pills and hair tonic.” Dillon, surprised by Underwood’s apparent return, quips, “Frank Underwood? I thought you were dead.” To which Spacey retorts, “I’m as dead as John McCain,” adding a humorous twist to the dialogue.
The interaction quickly escalates as Spacey attempts to blackmail Dillon, using DoorDash receipts and compromising photos as leverage. Dillon counters with a tech-savvy response: “These photos you gave me, I’ve posted them all. I’m on the internet. We don’t have blackmail. We have content.” This exchange captures the ongoing tension between the two characters while highlighting Dillon’s comedic approach.
Spacey responds with sharp wit, stating, “There is no limit to your duplicity, to your pandering, to your shameless and desperate desire to cling to relevance. You’re my kind of bastard.” The banter culminates with Dillon revealing that his special is streaming on Netflix, prompting Spacey to call him “a foul, lonesome, evil little cockroach. But I love you.” This playful insult is in stark contrast to the more serious undertones surrounding Spacey’s recent career.
Spacey’s return as Underwood follows his dismissal from Netflix’s “House of Cards” in 2017 after multiple allegations of sexual misconduct surfaced, leading to a tumultuous phase in his career. In 2022, a judge ordered him to pay $1 million to the production company MRC due to sexual misconduct claims on the show’s set. In late 2024, that figure was reduced, but the legal troubles continue to cast a long shadow over his career.
Despite the controversies, Spacey has made attempts to re-establish himself in the entertainment industry, most recently appearing as Underwood and previously in an interview with Tucker Carlson in 2023. Spacey maintains his innocence against the allegations and has shared that the legal implications have significantly impacted his life.
As the comedy special continues to stream on Netflix, it remains to be seen how the public will respond to Spacey’s return to the platform, and whether his portrayal of Frank Underwood will re-engage audiences who once revered the character.
