NEW YORK CITY, New York — Keyshawn Davis achieved a significant milestone in his professional boxing career on Friday night, stopping WBO lightweight champion Denys Berinchyk in the fourth round at Madison Square Garden Theater. The victory improves Davis’ record to 13-0, with 9 knockouts, while Berinchyk’s record falls to 19-1.
The bout showcased a remarkable size disparity, with Davis appearing larger than Berinchyk. He sent the champion to the canvas twice with body shots in rounds three and four before the referee intervened at 1:40 in the fourth round, declaring Davis the winner.
“There are two lightweight champions I would love to fight. Tell them to send the contracts,” Davis stated after his victory, expressing eagerness for future matchups.
Tim Bradley, a former champion and current commentator, praised Davis, stating, “He is the next face of boxing.” Davis’ dominant performance might suggest that he is indeed poised for a bright future in the sport.
The undercard featured several notable fights as well. In the chief support bout, WBO junior middleweight contender Xander Zayas (21-0, 13 KOs) halted Slawa Spomer (20-1, 11 KOs) in the ninth round, although the referee’s early stoppage raised some eyebrows among fans and analysts.
“I hurt him with a left to the body,” Zayas explained. “I followed up and did what I needed to do.”
Meanwhile, middleweights Vito Mielnicki Jr. (20-1-1, 12 KOs) and Connor Coyle (21-0-1, 9 KOs) fought to a controversial 10-round draw, with one judge scoring the fight in favor of Mielnicki Jr. despite Coyle appearing to land cleaner punches throughout. The official scores were 96-94 for Mielnicki Jr. and two 95-95 draws.
In the lightweight division, Abdullah Mason (17-0, 15 KOs) shined with a technical knockout of Manuel Jaimes (16-3-1, 11 KOs), knocking him down four times before the fight was stopped at 1:55 of the fourth round. Mason expressed his ambition to secure a world title shot soon.
Welterweight prospect Rohan Polanco (15-0, 10 KOs) also impressed, knocking out Jean Carlos Torres (22-2, 17 KOs) in the second round. The fight ended at 1:40 of the round, with Polanco dropping Torres once in both rounds.
Keon Davis (2-0, 1 KO) scored a second-round knockout of Ira Johnson (3-3, 2 KOs), demonstrating his potential in the welterweight division.
Finally, heavyweight Jared Anderson (17-1, 15 KOs) secured a unanimous decision victory against Marios Kollias (12-4-1, 10 KOs), despite facing late trouble in the final seconds of the fight.
As Keyshawn Davis continues to build on his impressive track record, the lightweight division is keenly awaiting his next moves in a highly competitive landscape filled with talent. Fans are eager to see if Davis can live up to the lofty expectations set forth by promoter Bob Arum and his own recent success.
