KFC Brings Back Beloved Potato Wedges for Limited Time in Tampa

TAMPA, Fla. — KFC fans rejoice: after a five-year absence, the chain is reintroducing its beloved potato wedges, but only for a limited test period. Starting March 10, the iconic side dish will be available exclusively at five locations in the Tampa area for just two weeks.
KFC discontinued the potato wedges in 2020, replacing them with signature fries, which left many customers disappointed. The loss sparked various petitions and social media campaigns, but it seems fans’ voices have finally been heard. The return of the wedges is seen as a triumph for those who have been clamoring for their comeback.
The limited-time offering has already generated significant buzz on social media, where fans expressed their excitement for the return. “Those wedges were good as f***,” commented one enthusiastic fan. Another added, “Should’ve never got rid of them,” reflecting widespread sentiment about the wedges’ longstanding popularity.
A KFC spokesperson shared insight into the decision to launch the potato wedges in Tampa. “Many factors go into selecting test markets, including representation of national QSR consumer trends for gauging customer feedback,” they said in an email. The spokesperson indicated that the future availability of the wedges on a national scale would depend on the outcome of this two-week trial.
The wedges, known for their crispy exterior and fluffy interior, will be available for dine-in only at select locations and cannot be ordered through third-party delivery services. The specific Tampa locations include: 1605 W. Kennedy Boulevard, 770 34th Street N. in St. Petersburg, 4402 W. Gandy Boulevard, 3105 Havendale Boulevard in Auburndale, and 1492 N. Broadway Avenue in Bartow.
To stave off any concerns about the testing phase, the KFC spokesperson noted, “They are one of KFC’s most requested menu items. Fans have been demanding them to return for five years.” If the trial proves successful, KFC is optimistic about a nationwide rollout of the potato wedges.
However, some fans expressed confusion over the necessity of a test run for a popular item. Comments on social media reflected frustration with the wait for a nationwide release, especially considering the wedges were previously a staple in KFC’s menu. “What is there to test lol we already ate them and liked them,” one user remarked.
As the testing phase unfolds, many fans are hopeful that the return of KFC’s potato wedges signals a broader shift back to customer favorites. For now, KFC enthusiasts in Tampa have a rare opportunity to indulge in the nostalgia of this beloved side dish.
