Killeen ISD Trustees to Discuss Summer Learning Programs

KILLEEN, Texas – Killeen Independent School District trustees will convene for a regular session at 9 a.m. Tuesday, followed by a special called meeting at 1 p.m. The agenda includes an overview of the Summer Learning Programs and updates to the Texas Association of School Boards’ Policy Manual, which are expected to impact local district policies.
Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction Jo-Lynette Crayton is slated to present data from the annual instructional intervention and remediation programs, specifically focusing on the past summer sessions and preparations for the upcoming summer 2025 session.
“The Summer Learning Programs are a crucial resource for our students, providing essential support and opportunities for academic growth,” Crayton stated. “Through these sessions, we aim to bridge learning gaps and ensure that students are well-prepared for the following school year.”
Diving into specifics, Crayton will reveal statistics regarding student participation and outcomes from previous summer programs, including improvements in test scores and overall academic performance. The data aims to highlight the effectiveness of the interventions provided during the summer months.
Besides the Summer Learning Programs, the board will review updates to the Texas Association of School Boards Policy Manual. Changes that will affect local policies are critical topics of discussion, as they guide the operational procedures of the district.
The meetings are open to the public, and the community is encouraged to attend to understand the initiatives that directly impact local education. Trustees are expected to discuss not only the proposed changes but also gather feedback from attendees regarding the summer learning initiatives.
With the academic year winding down, the district is already directing its focus toward enhancing future programs to support student success, ensuring continuity in educational growth.
