Korean Series Begins: LG Twins Face Hanwha Eagles at Jamsil Stadium
SEOUL, South Korea — The LG Twins are set to face the Hanwha Eagles in Game 1 of the 2025 Korean Series at Jamsil Baseball Stadium on October 26. LG manager Yeom Kyung-yeop expressed confidence, stating, “I think it’s going to be a good match against Hanwha. I will do my best to the end.”
Hanwha, having secured their playoff berth by finishing second in the regular season, is looking for their first Korean Series title since 1999. They defeated the Samsung Lions 3-2 to qualify for the Series. In contrast, LG, who led the regular season for much of the year, has a remarkable record with 83 wins, 4 draws, and 57 losses.
Yeom acknowledged the strength of Hanwha, mentioning, “They showed good performances in the playoffs,” indicating the tough competition ahead. He emphasized the importance of overcoming their team’s shortcomings, which they analyzed during their training camp.
Meanwhile, Hanwha’s manager, Kim Kyung-moon, also predicted a tough matchup, saying, “LG is a good team, but I want to play a good game until the end.” The two managers are preparing their teams for a competitive series.
On the mound, Moon Dong-ju will start for the Eagles. This young right-hander has been impressive, despite a less favorable record against LG this season. He is fresh off a strong playoff performance, where he posted a 0.00 ERA over six innings.
LG has selected Anders Tolhurst as their starting pitcher. The right-hander joined LG after a stint in the minors and has been effective on the Korean stage, with a record of 6 wins and 2 losses and a 2.86 ERA in eight games.
Yeom explained Tolhurst’s selection, citing his ball power and suitability for the critical first game after a break. He noted the series format necessitates strong performances from all pitchers.
As both teams prepare for the first game, Yeom stressed the importance of situational awareness on the field. He indicated that handling Hanwha’s key hitters would be crucial for success. Hanwha will seek to leverage their playoff momentum, while LG aims to reclaim their winning form.
With both teams aware of the stakes, the Korean Series promises to be a thrilling contest that will captivate fans across the nation.
