Lake Bell Parenting Insights, Angel Carter Conrad Interview

LOS ANGELES, CA — In exclusive interviews, actress Lake Bell and Angel Carter Conrad, sister of the late Aaron Carter, share their experiences of navigating parenthood while dealing with the complexities of their pasts. Both women advocate for open communication and mental health awareness as parents.

Lake Bell, known for her roles in various comedic films, and her ex-husband Scott Campbell have been through significant challenges since their separation in 2020. The couple attended therapy for two years to maintain a healthy co-parenting relationship for their children, Nova, 11, and Ozzi, 7. Bell emphasized the importance of their commitment to therapy, stating, “Even when we didn’t want to go, we still went. We did it for the good of our children and for us, too.”

The family’s journey has not been easy. Their son Ozzi faced life-threatening challenges at birth, and Nova was diagnosed with epilepsy in 2020. “We went through the trenches together,” Bell said, referring to their shared experiences which forged a deeper respect between them. “Sort of like army buddies.”

Bell’s upcoming book, inspired by Nova’s experiences with epilepsy and due for release on April 15, aims to empower children aged 4 to 8. She described how Nova’s condition, initially a source of family anxiety, transformed into a “superpower” for her daughter as she learned to articulate her experiences candidly to her peers.

Meanwhile, Angel Carter Conrad is using her platform to raise awareness about mental health following the tragic losses she has endured in her family. In her interview, she described the emotional struggles after losing her twin brother Aaron and other siblings. “Enduring such significant losses could have broken me, but instead, I’m advocating for children’s mental health,” she shared.

Conrad, who narrates a new documentary about her family’s journey, reflects on her own childhood experiences. She mentioned, “When I think back, I realize I was neglected because I didn’t have anything to offer. But that neglect ultimately saved me.” Now, she focuses on raising her daughter Harper in a nurturing environment, aiming to break the cycle of dysfunction that affected her family.

Both women emphasize the value of authenticity in parenting. “I loathe the idea of perfection,” Bell stated. “We’re all humans, and the more we share our imperfections with our children, the better.” Conrad echoed this sentiment, highlighting the importance of open conversations about emotions and mental health with her six-year-old daughter. “I tell her I understand why something is upsetting and show compassion for those big feelings,” she noted.

As Conrad continues to honor her siblings’ legacies, she hopes to inspire other families to communicate effectively and seek help when needed. “We are changing the narrative for them,” she stated, emphasizing the importance of addressing mental health issues and looking out for future generations.
