Lamine Yamal Shines in Champions League with Record-Breaking Goal
Lamine Yamal continues his phenomenal rise by setting new records in the UEFA Champions League. On Thursday, the young talent scored against Monaco, making him the second youngest player ever to achieve a goal in the prestigious competition. At 17 years and 68 days old, Yamal trails just four weeks behind the record holder, Ansu Fati, who also happens to be his fellow FC Barcelona teammate.
Yamal’s recent goal marks him as the fifth FC Barcelona player under the age of 18 to score in the Champions League. The others who have accomplished this remarkable feat include Bojan Krkic, Pedri, and Marc Guiu, highlighting Barcelona’s strong tradition of fostering young talent.
Even before the game commenced at the Stade Louis II, Yamal had made history by having appeared in the most Champions League matches before turning 18. Previously tied with Youri Tielemans, Jude Bellingham, and Warren Zaïre-Emery at 10 games, Yamal now leads with 11 appearances. Before Yamal, Bojan Krkic held the Barcelona club record with nine games played in the competition before reaching adulthood.
As Yamal does not celebrate his 18th birthday until July, he holds the potential to further extend these groundbreaking accomplishments, underlining his remarkable impact at a young age.
