LEÓN, Mexico — Jesse Villalpando, a midfielder for Club León, has been called up to the Mexican national team for upcoming friendlies against Brazil’s Internacional de Porto Alegre and Argentina’s River Plate. The matches, scheduled for early 2025, mark Villalpando’s first inclusion in the national squad under coach Javier Aguirre.

Villalpando, who has played for several Liga MX clubs including Pachuca and Celaya, expressed surprise at his selection. “It was unexpected, but I’m ready for this opportunity,” he told Azteca Deportes. “I’m open to playing in any position the coach assigns me.”

The 28-year-old has been a key player for Club León since joining in 2020, helping the team win the Liga MX title that same year. His versatility as both a winger and midfielder has made him a valuable asset for both club and country.

Meanwhile, Club León continues to strengthen its roster with the addition of Uruguayan midfielder Nicolás Fonseca, who previously played for River Plate. The move signals the club’s ambition to compete at the highest level in both domestic and international competitions.

In other news, the Universidad de Guanajuato has implemented advanced numerical simulation models to improve weather forecasting in the region. The system has proven effective in predicting extreme weather events, such as the recent Cold Front No. 23, which brought unusually low temperatures to the area.

Additionally, the city of León has completed a major infrastructure project, extending Boulevard La Luz at a cost of over 100 million pesos. The project is expected to reduce travel times by 30%, benefiting thousands of commuters daily.

Finally, the Escuela de Nivel Medio Superior de León has transitioned to virtual classes following a fire that damaged its auditorium and classrooms. The university has established an alternate site for in-person instruction while repairs are underway.
