Liverpool U18s Stage Impressive Comeback Against Crystal Palace
Liverpool U18s demonstrated remarkable resilience by overcoming a two-goal deficit to secure a 5-2 victory over Crystal Palace in the U18 Premier League Cup. The match took place on Saturday and was part of Group G competition.
The encounter began unfavorably for the young Reds, with Charlie Walker-Smith opening the scoring for Crystal Palace in the sixth minute. The lead was increased to 2-0 by Jesse Derry, who converted a penalty in the 18th minute. However, Liverpool initiated a spirited comeback in the following minutes.
Josh Sonni-Lambie started the rally, finding the net from an assist by Clae Ewing in the 23rd minute. Scofield Lonmeni equalized with an effort assisted by Sonni-Lambie, who also helped Kareem Ahmed to score, granting Liverpool a 3-2 advantage at halftime.
Despite Sonni-Lambie’s missed penalty in the 54th minute, the team’s dominance continued with Joe Bradshaw scoring twice to seal the 5-2 victory. The result was met with commendation from the team’s manager.
Reflecting on the performance, Marc Bridge-Wilkinson, Liverpool U18s manager, stated to Liverpoolfc.com, “It was a good performance, we went 2-0 down early on, but for the first time in a while I think the boys finally got it and it seemed to click.” He praised the team’s collective effort and character, highlighting their improvement and unity.
Liverpool’s matchday squad included Hall, Esdaille, Pitt, Enahoro-Marcus with substitutions Ewing for Evers and Furnell-Gill, O'Connor, Ayman, Ahmed, and played by Bradshaw, Sonni-Lambie, Lonmeni with Martin coming in as a substitute. Bernard remained an unused substitute for the game.
Looking forward, Bridge-Wilkinson’s side will next host Sunderland in the U18 Premier League North. The match is scheduled to take place at the Academy on Saturday, October 26, with a kick-off time set for 1pm BST.
