Los Angeles Rams Evaluate Player Injuries Following Loss to Green Bay Packers
Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay provided an update on Monday concerning the physical condition of his team following their recent defeat at the hands of the Green Bay Packers. According to McVay, while the team has incurred some “nicks and bruises,” none are expected to affect player availability after the Week 6 bye.
Quarterback Matthew Stafford is reportedly dealing with back soreness, though he is anticipated to be fit for the Rams’ Week 7 matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders. Notably, Stafford has endured 40 hits this season, raising concerns about his welfare for the remainder of the season. Additionally, wide receiver Jordan Whittington is managing a shoulder injury. He was the leading receiver for the Rams in Sunday’s game, registering seven receptions for 89 yards.
On the defensive end, rookie tackle Braden Fiske has a sore shoulder, and cornerback Kam Curl is experiencing back soreness. Despite these concerns, the Rams remain optimistic that all players will be ready following the bye week.
The Rams’ injury list, however, remains significant. The team has been without wide receiver Cooper Kupp for the last three games due to an ankle injury sustained in Week 2 against the Arizona Cardinals. Though Kupp is not on injured reserve, his return remains uncertain. ESPN’s Adam Schefter has reported that the Rams aim to have Kupp back in action by Week 7 provided there are no setbacks. Coach McVay tempered expectations by labeling Week 7 as an ‘ideal target,’ rather than a certainty.
Among other players on injured reserve are wide receiver Puka Nacua, safety John Johnson III, guard Jonah Jackson, and several others from key positions. This array of injuries has contributed to a challenging start to the season for the Rams, who currently hold a 1-4 record. This marks their weakest start since McVay became head coach in 2017.
