LSU Coach Kim Mulkey Threatens Legal Action Against The Washington Post over Investigative Piece
Louisiana State University‘s head coach, Kim Mulkey, has issued a stern response to The Washington Post, accusing the publication of pursuing a harmful investigative piece about her that she labels as a ‘hit piece’.
Mulkey directed her frustration towards The Washington Post journalist Kent Babb, whom she claimed had been relentlessly seeking an interview with her for the past two years. The coach revealed that Babb contacted LSU just days before their first-round tournament game with a series of questions, setting a tight deadline for response.
The veteran reporter, Kent Babb, who has been with The Washington Post for 14 years and is a recipient of several prestigious awards, is reportedly working on a profile piece on Kim Mulkey, although he declined to give detailed comments when approached for a response.
Kim Mulkey, now in her third season at LSU after a successful tenure at Baylor, where she secured four national titles, voiced her discontent with the journalist’s approach, citing a previous negative experience with Babb’s reporting on Brian Kelly.
Expressing her determination to combat any false narratives, Mulkey declared that she had enlisted top legal representation and would file a lawsuit against The Washington Post if any inaccuracies were published about her.
Mulkey further accused The Washington Post of attempting to deceive her former assistant coaches into speaking with the journalist under false pretenses, creating a sense of distress among them when they found out the true intent of the interviews.
The coach also highlighted alleged efforts by the publication to solicit negative comments from former players, offering them anonymity in exchange for unfavorable remarks about Mulkey. She argued that such tactics undermined the positive legacy she has built over decades in the basketball world.
Kim Mulkey emphasized the importance of holding journalists accountable for their actions, stating that she is in a position to challenge any misleading or sensationalized stories. She criticized what she perceived as unethical practices in modern media and expressed a commitment to upholding the integrity of her program and reputation.
