No. 5 LSU Welcomes Southeastern Louisiana in Women’s Basketball Showdown
BATON ROUGE, La. – The No. 5 LSU women’s basketball team returns to the Pete Maravich Assembly Center for a game against Southeastern Louisiana on Thursday night. This matchup follows a dominating 108-55 victory over Houston Christian in their season opener.
Fans can watch the LSU-SLU game on SEC Network +, with Lyn Rollins and Victor Howell calling the action. The LSU Sports Radio Network will also provide coverage, featuring Patrick Wright and Shaeeta Williams.
LSU will play two games in total this week, with another matchup against Georgia Southern on Sunday. The Tigers have a solid record against SLU, leading the series 36-11. Previous encounters have favored LSU, including a 73-50 victory last season.
In their opening game, freshman ZaKiyah Johnson made an impressive debut, earning a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Junior MiLaysia Fulwiley led the team with 21 points, closely followed by Mikaylah Williams with 14, and Flau’jae Johnson with 12. LSU’s shooting was strong as they secured 42-of-79 attempts (53.2%).
Defensively, the Tigers forced Houston Christian into 33 turnovers and recorded 23 steals during the game. Fulwiley was particularly aggressive, collecting seven steals, marking a significant achievement for the team.
On the other side, SLU is coming off a 105-49 victory over Centenary. Under head coach Jeff Dow, the Lady Lions are looking strong this season, having also demonstrated offensive firepower.
The Tigers will aim to defend their excellent home record, with a 23-4 advantage when hosting SLU at the PMAC. The next matchup promises to be an exciting in-state rivalry.
