Luka Dončić Impresses in Preseason Debut with 25 Points

DALLAS, Texas — Luka Dončić made a strong impression in his preseason debut on Tuesday night, scoring 25 points and tallying seven rebounds and four assists in just 22 minutes as the Los Angeles Lakers faced off against the Phoenix Suns.
One of Dončić’s new teammates, Deandre Ayton, who was previously drafted ahead of Dončić in 2018, noted the guard’s unique skill set. Speaking after the game, Ayton remarked, “One-in-a-generational player when it comes to that pick-and-roll.”
Ayton highlighted a specific moment in the game where he and Dončić connected on a lob during a pick-and-roll play. However, it was the passes that were directed elsewhere that particularly caught Ayton’s attention. “I thought the pass was for me, but I’m ducking my head for the pass to get to the corner,” he said. “That was really fun. Seeing how he starts to do his Luka magic in those situations.”
This season, Ayton can expect more of the same excitement while he catches lobs from Dončić. Having previously played with Chris Paul in Phoenix, Ayton recognized differences in their playing styles. While Paul is regarded as one of the best point guards ever, Dončić brings a different skill set. “He has the size and ability to make any pass at any moment,” Ayton explained. “You have to keep your eyes on him at all times.”
With the season approaching, fans and teammates alike are eager to witness Dončić’s talents on the court.
