DAYTON, Nevada – An earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale occurred east of Dayton on Thursday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The tremor hit shortly after 8 a.m.

However, just moments later, the USGS removed the event from its website, raising questions about the initial report. KTVU reached out to the USGS for clarification on this discrepancy.

Dayton is located approximately 40 miles from Reno, making it a notable location for seismic activity.

Officials are monitoring the situation as more information becomes available.
