Greater Victoria Earthquake

Early Thursday morning, residents of British Columbia were awakened by a 4.1-magnitude earthquake that struck near Greater Victoria. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the seismic event occurred just after 4 a.m. The earthquake’s epicenter was pinpointed near Sidney and D’Arcy Islands, slightly east of the Saanich Peninsula.

The earthquake was recorded at a depth of 52 kilometers beneath the earth’s surface, as reported by the USGS. Despite its moderate magnitude, the tremor was felt by hundreds of individuals across a wide area, including Greater Victoria, Duncan, the Vancouver area, and parts of Washington state.

Officials have yet to report any significant damage or injuries resulting from the earthquake. However, the event has prompted reminders about the importance of earthquake preparedness in the region. According to British Columbia’s earthquake safety guidelines, it is advised that individuals remain in bed during a quake, taking measures to protect their heads with a pillow or blanket.

Further information about earthquake preparedness and safety measures is available through provincial resources and other official channels. Residents are encouraged to remain aware and prepared for any potential aftershocks or additional seismic activity in the coming days.
