Manchester, England – Harry Maguire is reportedly in positive discussions with Manchester United regarding a contract extension at Old Trafford. The England international, who is set to become a free agent at the end of the current season, is eager to maintain his role within the team.

Despite facing challenges with fitness and form earlier in his career, Maguire’s leadership has been recognized as vital in Ruben Amorim’s system. Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano noted that both the player and club are satisfied with the ongoing negotiations.

However, financial details are pivotal in the negotiations. Maguire, currently on a contract that compensated him around £190,000-per-week, may only be offered a new deal if he agrees to reduce his salary. Recent reports indicate that United are preparing an offer of around £140,000-per-week.

The six-year contract Maguire initially signed, which involved a transfer fee of £80 million ($106.4 million), has now entered its later stages, and the desire for a salary reduction, especially as he heads towards the end of his career, has emerged.

Maguire himself has addressed the media regarding his future, emphasizing his commitment to the club. “I’m pretty sure the club have made it aware this summer that I can’t leave the club,” he said. He acknowledged the ongoing conversations regarding his contract and expressed his excitement about continuing at such a prestigious club.

While Maguire stays put for now, United were open to transferring him during the summer after receiving a £30 million proposal from West Ham United, which he ultimately declined in favor of fighting for his place at the club.
