Matthieu Blazy Appointed as New Creative Director of Chanel
In a significant move within the fashion industry, Matthieu Blazy has been officially appointed as the new creative director of the iconic French fashion house, Chanel. This announcement marks a new chapter for both Blazy and the 114-year-old brand.
Blazy, a French-Belgian designer born in 1984, has a rich background in fashion. He graduated from La Cambre fashion school in Brussels and has worked with several prestigious brands, including Balenciaga, John Galliano, Maison Margiela, Celine, and Calvin Klein. His most recent role was as the creative director of Bottega Veneta, a position he held from November 2021 until December 2024.
During his tenure at Bottega Veneta, Blazy introduced several innovative designs, including trompe-l’œil denim leather pants, intrecciato-woven handbags, and knitted leather sock-slippers. He was praised for his inclusive management style and for involving craftspeople in the creative process, earning him the nickname “Magician of Milan“.
Blazy’s appointment at Chanel makes him the fourth official creative director in the brand’s history. He is known for his focus on creative innovation while respecting the product and legacy of the brand. This transition follows his departure from Bottega Veneta, where he will be succeeded by Louise Trotter.
