Milton Keynes, England — Speculation is mounting about Max Verstappen‘s future with Red Bull Racing as CEO Zak Brown suggests the four-time Formula 1 champion may leave the team at the end of this season.

The uncertainty follows technical issues with the RB20 car and Adrian Newey‘s recent departure to Aston Martin, which has fueled rumors of Verstappen’s potential exit. In an interview with Motorsport Magazine, Brown stated, “Oh I think he’ll leave at the end of this year. Most likely to Merc [Mercedes].”

Brown elaborated on his predictions, highlighting Mercedes’ strength and stability in the sport. He noted, “In the last 10 years, they’ve won the championship seven or eight times. Last year they won five races. They have stability. We know Toto [Wolff] likes him.” Brown also pointed out changes in Mercedes’ driver lineup that could foster a move, mentioning that George Russell‘s contract expires at the end of the season.

Despite these speculations, Red Bull team principal Christian Horner remains confident about Verstappen’s commitment to the team. “You report those rumblings every week but he’s still here,” Horner said. He emphasized Verstappen’s satisfaction with the current team, stating, “He’s driving in the form of his life.”

Horner dismissed concerns linking Newey’s departure to Verstappen’s future, asserting, “Max’s contract is obviously always going to remain confidential, but there’s no clauses with Adrian that link Adrian in any way to Max.” He stressed that Verstappen enjoys a solid working relationship with his engineers and is thriving in his current environment.

As the 2025 season unfolds, the race for Verstappen’s signature is heating up, although Red Bull continues to assert that their star driver is focused and content within the team. With significant shifts occurring in the paddock, fans and analysts alike are keenly watching for any further developments regarding the reigning champion’s future.
