Mike McGlinchey Returning Home as Broncos Face Eagles

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — Denver Broncos offensive tackle Mike McGlinchey is set to play at Lincoln Financial Field this Sunday, marking a homecoming for the player who grew up just outside Philadelphia. The Broncos will face the undefeated defending NFL champions, the Philadelphia Eagles, in a highly anticipated Week 5 matchup.
McGlinchey, who was born on August 29, 1994, in Philadelphia, always had a passion for football, a love fueled by his upbringing in a close-knit Irish Catholic family. His cousin, retired NFL quarterback Matt Ryan, describes McGlinchey as ‘a massive kid’ who seemed destined for success in football. ‘We knew right from the start,’ Ryan said. ‘I’m just so proud of everything he’s done.’
The Broncos (2-2) are coming off a commanding 28-3 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals, where McGlinchey and his fellow linemen helped produce a stunning offensive performance with a total of 512 yards. McGlinchey said he considers Ryan a significant mentor in his life, crediting him for setting a strong example of professionalism.
Offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi praised McGlinchey and left tackle Garett Bolles for their performance. Bolles leads the NFL with the lowest quarterback pressure rate at 4.6%, while McGlinchey follows closely at 5.3%. This strong offensive line will be crucial as the Broncos aim to protect their quarterback Bo Nix against the Eagles’ formidable defense.
McGlinchey’s journey began at William Penn Charter School in Philadelphia, where his versatility on the field impressed coaches. ‘Michael played almost every position on offense,’ said former coach Jeff Humble. ‘He was that athletic where we could just move him around.’ McGlinchey’s talent eventually led him to Notre Dame, where he became a top-rated recruit and a second-team All-American.
Looking back, McGlinchey recalls a memorable draft party in Richboro, Pennsylvania, where over 150 friends and family gathered to celebrate his selection as the ninth overall pick by the San Francisco 49ers. The event celebrated all who influenced his career, showcasing the support he received from those around him.
As the Broncos prepare for the Eagles (4-0), McGlinchey is excited to play in front of family and friends at the stadium he grew up watching. ‘I’m really proud of where I came from,’ he said. ‘But it’s a weird thing because a lot of family and friends are rooting against me this weekend.’
With McGlinchey leading the offensive line, the Broncos hope to prove themselves against elite competition as they strive for a playoff position this season.
