Milwaukee Bucks Rely on Veterans Amid Championship Push
The Milwaukee Bucks, led by two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, are leaning heavily on their veteran core as they continue their pursuit of another NBA championship. With Antetokounmpo locked into a long-term contract, the team remains in win-now mode, prioritizing experienced players over younger talent.
Andre Jackson and AJ Green are the only young players consistently in the rotation, with most of the team’s key contributors being seasoned NBA veterans. Antetokounmpo has repeatedly emphasized his commitment to Milwaukee, as long as the franchise remains competitive and focused on winning titles.
Despite their reliance on veterans, the Bucks are hopeful for a breakout from rookie AJ Johnson, their first-round pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. Johnson, selected 23rd overall, has spent most of his rookie season in the G League, where he has shown flashes of potential but struggled with consistency, particularly from beyond the arc, shooting just 29 percent from three-point range.
Johnson averages nearly 14 points and 4.8 assists per game in the G League, showcasing his ability to create shots for himself and others. However, his high turnover rate—over three per game—remains a concern. The Bucks are optimistic that Johnson can refine his game and contribute to the team next season.
For now, Milwaukee remains focused on its veteran-led roster, aiming to capitalize on Antetokounmpo’s prime years and bring another championship to the city.
