Minnesota QB Prepares for Big Game Against Rutgers

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Minnesota quarterback Drake Lindsey spoke to the media on Wednesday about preparing for the Golden Gophers’ upcoming game against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, scheduled for Saturday.
After coming off a tough loss to California, Lindsey emphasized the need for improvement on the field. “When you look back at that game, we have to execute better. That was the main point,” Lindsey said. “A flaw from one person can destroy the whole play. All eleven have to play together.”
Lindsey also discussed the impact of the bye week, reflecting on the lessons learned from the loss. “It took a few days to get over it, but I think it was the best for our football team,” he said. “It’s going to help us down the line.”
He touched on the challenges presented by Rutgers’ defense, particularly their versatility and intensity. “They do a lot of different things,” he explained. “It will come down to who obsesses over the ball more.”
As a redshirt freshman, Lindsey acknowledges the pressure of the quarterback position, especially in a competitive conference like the Big Ten. “I figured all the offensive pieces out. I just want to push myself and be the best quarterback I can be,” he said.
Head coach Greg Schiano of Rutgers praised Minnesota, describing them as a well-coached team and highlighting their number one defense. “It’s a huge challenge going on the road for the first time,” he stated. “They’ve put together a great staff.”
Lindsey’s relationship with his teammates, particularly left tackle Roy, adds an interesting dynamic. “He plays hard and gives it his all,” Lindsey noted. “We’re great friends and he does an awesome job.”
With the match approaching, both teams are eager to prove themselves. The Gophers aim to bounce back and start strong in their Big Ten opener, while Rutgers looks to continue their defensive success. A win on Saturday could set the tone for the rest of the season for both teams.
