Ja Morant Nba Future Face

SAN FRANCISCO — Ja Morant, the Memphis Grizzlies‘ star guard, stated he does not wish to become the next face of the NBA. This revelation comes ahead of the Grizzlies’ game against the Golden State Warriors on Monday.

“I never did for real,” Morant told The Athletic on Oct. 27, 2025. The 26-year-old has been part of discussions about young players poised to carry the league’s mantle after LeBron James and Stephen Curry. However, he insists that he plays for the love of basketball, not for fame.

Morant has made a name for himself since being selected No. 2 by the Grizzlies in the 2019 NBA Draft. He won the Rookie of the Year award and became an All-Star in both 2022 and 2023. Yet, his career was affected by off-court incidents, including suspensions linked to gun-related videos, which have overshadowed his talent.

In March 2023, the NBA suspended Morant for eight games for conduct detrimental to the league. A similar incident led to a 25-game suspension at the start of the 2023-24 season. Despite these setbacks, he remains respected by his peers, with Curry naming him as one of the bright stars in the league.

“That stuff takes care of itself,” Curry told The Athletic. He highlighted the importance of being a good ambassador for the game, which includes players like Morant and others. Morant appreciates this recognition and believes it is more significant than any title.

Reflecting on the match against the Warriors, Morant expressed his admiration for Curry, commending the evolution of his game over the years. He acknowledged the challenges posed by Curry’s skill on the court.

Morant’s focus, he says, is on personal growth rather than fulfilling a particular role. “Just be the best Ja I can be,” he stated. He remains confident in his abilities, looking to improve on the court despite past challenges.

Morant’s passion for basketball and his commitment to improvement will continue to define his career moving forward.
