Nhl Player Waivers October 2024

In recent National Hockey League (NHL) developments, the Calgary Flames have submitted the name of Canadian forward Jakob Pelletier to waivers, as reported by journalist Stéphane Leroux. Pelletier, who was a first-round pick, 26th overall, in 2019 by the Flames, signed a one-year contract valued at USD 800,000 on September 13. Standing 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing 170 pounds, Pelletier scored one goal and had two assists in 13 games with the Flames last season. He also contributed five goals and seven assists in 18 games with their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate. Formerly part of the Moncton Wildcats and Val-d'Or Foreurs, Pelletier might draw interest from other teams, according to Leroux.

In other roster moves, Sam Gagner has been released from his professional tryout contract by the Carolina Hurricanes. The 34-year-old forward joined the Hurricanes in September and recorded one goal and four points in four preseason games. Previously, Gagner played 28 games last season with the Edmonton Oilers, scoring five goals and ten points, though he did not participate in the Stanley Cup Final against the Florida Panthers. Drafted sixth overall by the Oilers in 2007, Gagner holds a career total of 197 goals and 529 points over 1,043 games across several NHL teams including the Arizona Coyotes, Philadelphia Flyers, Columbus Blue Jackets, Vancouver Canucks, Detroit Red Wings, and Winnipeg Jets.

The Edmonton Oilers have placed forward Raphael Lavoie and goaltender Olivier Rodrigue on waivers. Lavoie achieved 28 goals and 22 assists in 66 games last season with Barkersfield of the AHL and appeared in seven NHL games, recording a plus/minus of minus-2. Rodrigue recorded a 19-12-5 record, with a goals-against average of 2.73 and a save percentage of .916, though he has yet to debut in the NHL, having been a second-round draft choice.

The St. Louis Blues have reassigned Laurent Dauphin to their AHL affiliate, the Springfield Thunderbirds. Dauphin, who extended his contract by one year in June, enters his fourth season with the Blues organization. Last season, the sixth-round pick from the 2018 draft scored seven goals and added 18 assists in 68 games at Springfield, without making an NHL appearance.

The New York Islanders have placed left-winger Pierre Engvall on waivers. Engvall has six years remaining on his contract, with USD 18 million forthcoming. Across 318 career games with the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Islanders, Engvall has accumulated 57 goals and 63 assists.

Additionally, the Carolina Hurricanes have placed the names of Josiah Slavin, Ty Smith, and Ryan Suzuki on waivers. This move is part of a strategy to assign them to the Chicago Wolves in the AHL, indicating a shift in focus towards solidifying their roster ahead of the NHL season.
