SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Authorities are currently investigating the recent death of a woman found on Hall of Fame Avenue, a public bike path, igniting fears of a potential serial killer in New England. The body was discovered around 8 a.m. on April 22, in what police are treating as an ‘unattended death’ pending autopsy results, according to Springfield Police Department spokesman Ryan Walsh.

This incident marks the latest in a concerning trend, with a total of eight bodies discovered across Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island since early March. Police are seeking to quell mounting public anxiety by emphasizing there is no evidence of foul play linking the deceased individuals to one another.

The investigation began on March 6, when human remains were found in Plymouth, Massachusetts, and a second body was identified shortly thereafter in Norwalk, Connecticut. “Based on our investigation, there is no indication of foul play or relation to any other death or serial killer,” said Norwalk Police Department Lt. Tomasz Podgorski.

Community fears intensified following remarks from residents discussing the alarming discoveries, with the Facebook group named New England SK rapidly growing to over 17,000 members voicing their concerns. However, law enforcement officials continue to urge public caution against circulating unverified information online.

In an indication of the ongoing worries, Groton Police Chief Louis Fusaro emphasized, “I would tell people, ‘Don’t rush to judgment,’” following the discovery of female remains near Colonel Ledyard Cemetery, which had been found earlier this week.

There are numerous unsolved cases connected to the string of deaths. The remains of 59-year-old Denise Leary were identified in New Haven a few weeks ago after she had been reported missing, while another body was found in Rhode Island’s Foster, identified as 56-year-old Michele Romano. Romano’s family urged that her death is unrelated to a potential serial killer.

Current police investigations are ongoing with a focus on discerning the details surrounding each death. Despite widespread concerns, Walsh asserted, “Internet rumors are just that.” Officials maintain that there is no known threat to public safety at this time, encouraging anyone with credible information to contact local authorities.
