WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Nathan Richmond scored two goals to lead Clemson to a thrilling 4-3 victory over No. 13 Wake Forest on Friday night. The win marks Clemson’s first victory at Wake Forest since 2022 and drops the Demon Deacons to their third loss in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) this season.

The match started with Wake Forest taking an early lead. Cooper Flax converted a penalty kick in the 12th minute after a handball was called on Floki Stephensen. Flax’s strike put the Demon Deacons ahead 1-0.

However, Richmond quickly responded for the Tigers, scoring his first goal just over a minute later. He found the bottom right corner of the net off a pass from Cooper Hineline to equalize the score at 1-1 in the 13th minute.

In the 20th minute, Clemson took the lead when Lukas Magnason headed the ball into the top left corner with an assist from Ransford Gyan, making it 2-1. Wake Forest fought back with a goal in the 24th minute by Tate Lorentz, tying the match at 2-2.

Clemson regained the lead once more in the 29th minute when Gyan scored his eighth goal of the season, placing the ball in the bottom left corner with assistance from Misei Yoshizawa to go ahead 3-2.

Just before halftime, Daniel Krueger scored a header for Wake Forest to make it 3-3, ending a high-scoring first half.

The second half saw a fierce battle with a total of 11 shots by both teams combined in the first 26 minutes. Richmond then netted his second goal in the 72nd minute, maneuvering through a defender’s legs to score, assisted by Gyan. This goal secured Richmond’s brace and put the Tigers ahead 4-3.

Gyan’s performance this season continues to impress as he leads the team with eight goals, now tied for second in the NCAA.

The Tigers will return to action at home against Elon on Saturday, Oct. 4, at 7 p.m. The match will be broadcast on ACCNX, with live stats available at ClemsonTigers.com.
