Nayab Singh Saini-led Haryana Government Wins Confidence Motion in Assembly
The Nayab Singh Saini-led government in Haryana emerged victorious in a confidence motion held at the State Assembly in Chandigarh. The confidence motion, conducted through a voice vote, saw a two-hour discussion among the members.
Ahead of the voting, the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) had directed its 10 legislators to abstain from the House during the confidence motion. However, during the critical moment of voting, five JJP members exited the Assembly.
With the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) holding 41 MLAs in the 90-member Assembly, and supported by six independents and Haryana Lokhit Party MLA Gopal Kanda, the Saini government had a comfortable backing going into the confidence motion. The JJP, with 10 members, found itself in a challenging position, while the Congress with 30 MLAs and the Indian National Lok Dal with one MLA formed the main opposition in the Assembly.
Former Chief Minister Anil Vij was also present during the proceedings at the Assembly. Prior to the confidence motion, concerns were raised by Congress MLAs regarding the urgency of convening the session, with leaders like Bhupinder Singh Hooda questioning the timing of the motion. However, the Speaker maintained that the discussion should proceed promptly.
Diving into the discussion, Congress member Raghuvir Singh Kadian criticized the Saini government on various fronts including farmer issues, law and order, employment, alleged scams, and more. He highlighted challenges faced by the state and expressed opposition towards the trust vote, citing concerns over governance and accountability.
Independent MLA Ranjit Singh Chautala, part of the Saini cabinet, lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a ‘jannayak’ and made remarks about the current state of the Congress party. Meanwhile, the BJP’s transition from Khattar to Saini at the helm was commended, with Saini expressing gratitude for the opportunity and reaffirming commitment to the state’s progress.
The confidence motion, a significant event in the political landscape of Haryana, concluded with the Saini-led government securing the necessary support to continue its governance. The transition from Khattar to Saini marks a new chapter for the state, with alliances and opposition dynamics shaping the path ahead.
