Cooper Flagg Nba Rookie Struggles

Charlotte, NC – As the 2025-26 NBA season unfolds, rookie players are already making headlines with their performances. Among them, Cooper Flagg, the No. 1 overall pick, faces challenges adjusting to the league. Meanwhile, VJ Edgecombe is making a strong case for Rookie of the Year.

Flagg’s adjustment to point guard under Jason Kidd‘s coaching has not been smooth. Currently, he ranks last in efficiency among players with at least 50 pick-and-roll possessions, creating just 0.500 points per possession. The Dallas Mavericks, Flagg’s team, are struggling offensively, sitting 23rd in potential assists and 28th in effective field goal percentage.

“This team has an offense problem that will impact Flagg no matter what position he plays,” said Sam Quinn, a basketball analyst. “They lack shooting and playmaking.” Flagg’s scoring from open shots is also troubling, with only 12 successful baskets out of 41 attempts. Concerns won’t mount until Christmas if his shooting does not improve.

In contrast, VJ Edgecombe, the No. 4 overall pick, is thriving with the Philadelphia 76ers. Averaging more assists than other rookies, including those of Dwyane Wade, Edgecombe is proving his value as both a scorer and playmaker. “He’s fit perfectly into Philadelphia’s new style, showcasing his ability to transition effectively in the fast-paced game,” said James Herbert.

Among other noteworthy rookies, Kon Knueppel has shown promise for the Charlotte Hornets. Scoring over 20 points in key games, Knueppel is also contributing with rebounds. He stands third among rookies in points per game. “He’s started strong, and if he keeps this up, he could see some recognition,” remarked analyst Jack Maloney.

Notably, Charlotte’s new talent has provided hope for the franchise’s future, as they try to rise above past seasons. Kon Knueppel and others are expected to play critical roles as the season progresses.

“If he can maintain this performance level, Knueppel could become an essential part of the team,” added Maloney.
