New Game Connections Tests Sports Knowledge for Fans

BOSTON, Mass. — The New York Times has launched a new version of its popular game, Connections, specifically targeting sports fans. This new edition, dubbed Connections: Sports Edition, aims to challenge players on their sports knowledge through a series of puzzles.
Released on August 8, 2025, the game is designed to find the “common threads between words.” Similar to Wordle, Connections: Sports Edition resets daily at midnight, presenting players with increasingly difficult sets of words to group.
The game consists of 16 words that players must categorize into four groups based on shared similarities. These categories may include anything from sports terminology to player names. When players successfully identify all four words in a group, those words are removed from the board.
Players are allowed up to four mistakes during their gameplay. If a wrong guess is made, it counts as one mistake, emphasizing the game’s challenge. Additionally, the game board can be rearranged to help players make connections more easily.
Each group of words is color-coded by difficulty, ranging from yellow, the easiest, to purple, the most challenging. Like Wordle, players can share their results on social media, making the game a social experience.
For those struggling with today’s puzzle, hints are often provided, and there are resources available for other types of games such as Mahjong and Sudoku.
The solution to today’s Connections Sports Edition #319 will be revealed at the end of the article, but players are encouraged to solve it independently for the best experience.
