New Jersey Devils’ Goaltending Sparks Optimism in Early NHL Season
Only two games into the NHL season, the New Jersey Devils have managed to showcase an impressive form, especially in their matches against the Buffalo Sabres during the Global Series in Prague, Czechia. The Devils’ current roster reflects a newfound confidence, prominently highlighted by their strong goaltending performance.
Goalkeepers Jacob Markstrom and Jake Allen played pivotal roles in the victories over the Sabres. In the season opener last Friday, Markstrom successfully saved 30 out of 31 shots, demonstrating a promising start. Following this, Allen conceded just one goal from 18 shots during Saturday’s match, maintaining the defensive stronghold for the team.
In the off-season, the Devils aimed to strengthen their goaltender lineup. This led to General Manager Tom Fitzgerald acquiring Jacob Markstrom, who is a former Vezina Trophy candidate, to bring extensive playoff experience to the Devils. Alongside Allen, this veteran goaltending duo is expected to provide consistent and formidable performances that might drive the team toward a successful postseason run.
On “Daily Faceoff LIVE,” Frank Seravalli shared his insights into the bolstered goaltending of the Devils, stating, “They finally solved their goaltending, I believe, for the first time in Tom Fitzgerald’s tenure as GM. They’ve got two guys in Jacob Markstrom and Jake Allen that, on any given night, should give that team a chance to win all 82 games. That’s all you can ask of your goaltending, and I’ve got the Devils winning the Metro Division in the regular season.”
Seravalli’s confidence in the Devils indicates a belief that the team has developed a winning strategy, especially through the lens of its goaltending capabilities, which are expected to pave the way for a significant step forward this season.
