Neymar Hints at Potential Reunion with Messi, Suárez in Miami
Brazilian football star Neymar has sparked speculation about a potential reunion with former Barcelona teammates Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez at Inter Miami. During an interview with CNN Sport at the Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai, Neymar expressed openness to the idea of reuniting with the duo in Major League Soccer (MLS).
“Obviously, playing with Messi and Suárez again would be incredible. They are my friends, and we still talk,” Neymar said. “It would be interesting to relive this trio. I’m happy at Al-Hilal, I’m happy in Saudi Arabia, but who knows? Football is full of surprises.”
Neymar, who currently plays for Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal, has only made seven appearances for the team since his €90 million transfer from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in 2023. Injuries have plagued his time in Saudi Arabia, limiting his playing time. His contract with Al-Hilal is set to expire in June 2025.
The 32-year-old forward spent six seasons at PSG, scoring 118 goals, but despite domestic success, he failed to secure a UEFA Champions League title with the French club. Neymar acknowledged that a move to Inter Miami was not feasible in 2023 due to the MLS transfer window being closed at the time of his departure from PSG.
“The project offered to me in Saudi Arabia was very good, not just for me but also for my family, so going there was the best option,” Neymar explained. He also emphasized his desire to compete in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which he believes will be his last opportunity to achieve glory on the international stage.
Neymar, Brazil‘s all-time leading scorer with 79 goals, has been sidelined since October 2023 due to a torn anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus in his left knee. “I will try, I want to be there. I will do everything possible to be part of the national team,” he said. “I know this will be my last World Cup, my last chance, and I will do everything to play in it.”
Neymar, Messi, and Suárez formed a formidable attacking trio at Barcelona between 2014 and 2017, winning a historic treble in the 2014-15 season, including the UEFA Champions League, LaLiga, and Copa del Rey. The trio also secured two additional LaLiga titles and Copa del Rey trophies during their time together.
While Neymar’s future remains uncertain, his comments have reignited excitement among fans about the possibility of seeing the legendary trio reunite in Miami. Messi and Suárez currently play for Inter Miami, which has become a hub for high-profile football stars in recent years.
