NFL Free Agency Approaches: Players Poised for Paydays

NEW YORK, NY – The NFL is set to kick off its free agency period on March 12, 2025, at 4 p.m. ET, with a crucial negotiating window opening this coming Monday at noon ET. This year’s record salary cap gives athletes in lesser-known roles a chance to command substantial contracts as teams look to bolster their rosters.
Several up-and-coming players are expected to earn significant paychecks, with their recent performance showcasing their potential. Among those vying for lucrative contracts are edge rusher Dayo Odeyingbo, guard Aaron Banks, center Drew Dalman, and safety Trevon Moehrig. Many of these athletes have shown impressive statistics, making them top contenders in the open market.
At just 25 years old, Odeyingbo, a second-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, had a successful fourth season with 50 QB pressures, solidifying his role with the Indianapolis Colts. His ability to generate over 30 QB hits in fewer than 20 starts positions him for potential annual earnings of $16 million to $20 million.
Banks, another notable player, significantly increased his stock after the Kansas City Chiefs placed the franchise tag on him. At 27, and a former second-round draft pick from Notre Dame, he allowed only one sack during a season filled with impressive stats. Analysts anticipate that he could secure a deal between $18 million and $20 million annually, similar to what high-caliber guards recently received.
Drew Dalman is also eyeing a considerable payday, projected in the $13 million-to-$14 million range. Despite facing an ankle injury last season, Dalman maintained strong performance metrics, allowing minimal sacks and earning a reputation among centers.
Safety Trevon Moehrig, who set career highs last season with 104 tackles, could command upwards of $12 million yearly. His consistent performance keeps him in the spotlight as teams prioritize defensive improvements.
Interestingly, the free agency frenzy also sees attention going to linebackers like Sherwood, a fifth-round pick from the Jets whose breakout season led to 158 total tackles. With his age working in his favor, an estimated contract around $12 million annually is within reach.
As the free agency window approaches, expectations build around marquee players. The movement in contracts and team strategies will shape how franchises construct their rosters for the upcoming season. Free agency remains a dynamic time for those both entering and rebuilding their careers.
